existence, as an alternative to not.

what lies on the other side? no one knows. but existing is the alternative to finding out. and we assume that it is better to exist than to not. because for each paradise there is a hell, and finding out is a chance we arent willing to take. I get that though, from a risk-averse standpoint. would you risk 50$ in a casino to win $100? not everyone would. I present a palatable alternative. nothing.

just, nothing.

lets say I'm right. is that void bad? especially when the alternative is to chug along where we are, only to find out on not-our-own terms? now, I'm not saying we should all commit suicide. that would be extremely morbid. what I am saying, is that there really isn't a reason to exist apart from the fact that it is the choice made for us and most of us haven't the balls to explore the alternative(s).

and more importantly right, where there is nothing, there is no pain, no suffering, no unfulfilled desire, no one to love and lose, no regret, no boredom, no anxiety. No regret. that's the clincher. so whats there to lose? regretting not having done xxx, or bought yyy, is a very "existent" thing to say. if you are no longer existent (ex-existent or rather, ex^2istent), then you don't feel anything. Nothing negative remains. Sure, nothing positive remains either, but since you no longer exist, you wont be able to enjoy it anyway.

so the very fact that humans continue tottering down this fragile path suggests that there is, after all, a raison d'etre. it is both a fundamentally optimistic statement about the world (that existence is better than being in a timeless void), and also a conservative statement, the unwillingness to take a chance and gamble between heaven and hell. Or my void, just in case I'm right.

so what am i saying here? existence is not the default thing, just the alternative to nothing, and the only valid reason I can fathom for our existence is that we exist for others, our parents for instance. The ceasement of our being will cause pain to others stuck here to experience it, though we in our void may not.
